SPRINGFIELD — Bank of Springfield (BOS) CEO and Chairman Tom Marantz was recently appointed to the State Banking Board of Illinois by Governor Bruce Rauner.  As a member of the Board, Marantz will be charged with providing advice and guidance to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Division of Banking with respect to the supervision and regulation of state chartered banks and trust companies. Board members also serve as the Board of Trustees of the Illinois Bank Examiners' Education Foundation, approving investments and expenditures of Foundation funds.

“As a member of the Board, Tom brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table,” said Michael J. Mannion, Director of Banking at IDFPR.  “I look forward to working with Tom as we continue our focus on addressing the rules and regulations that place undue burdens on our community banks.”

Marantz joined BOS in 1979. Today BOS is a regional bank with 12 locations and over $850 million in assets.  Marantz also serves as a member on the Citizens Bank of Edinburg Board of Directors and is the 2nd Vice Chairman of the Community Bankers Association of Illinois (CBAI).  He was Chairman of the First Community State Bank Board from 2003 to 2014 when it merged with BOS.

“With his considerable banking experience and strong commitment to community banking and the dual banking system, Tom Marantz will be a great addition to the State Banking Board,” said Robert J. Wingert, Community Bankers Association of Illinois President.

Senate confirmation is required for Board member appointments. Marantz’s term on the State Banking Board expires December 31, 2018.
