Illinois ENERGY STAR® Rebates for Heating and Cooling Equipment Ending April 5

Press Release - Friday, March 26, 2010

SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) today announced that rebates available through the Illinois ENERGY STAR Appliance Rebate program for HVAC equipment will end at 11:59 p.m. on Mon., April 5. As of March 20, consumers have received $1.6 million in rebates and generated $18.3 million in HVAC sales.

"The success of the ENERGY STAR rebate program is a solid example of the economic benefits of having a healthy ‘green sector,'" said DCEO Director Warren Ribley. "In just seven weeks, nearly $21 million has been pumped into the Illinois economy through this program, and many of our small retail and contractor outlets are benefitting. The added benefit is that we're helping to promote the state's energy efficiency goals, while saving consumers more of their hard-earned money."

Rebates on heating and cooling equipment are available through the end of the day on Mon., April 5. In order to receive the rebate, HVAC customers must work with a participating contractor near them. The list of contractors is available at www.illinoisenergy.org/appliances.

The appliance portion of the rebate program will run from April 16 - 25. It provides a flat 15 percent point-of-sale instant rebate to consumers who purchase ENERGY STAR qualified refrigerators, freezers, clothes washers, dishwashers, and room air conditioners at participating retail stores.  Over 600 retailers throughout the state have signed up to participate in the program.

The Illinois ENERGY STAR Appliance Rebate Program is being managed by the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) on behalf of DCEO. The state is also partnering with the Illinois Retail Merchants Association (IRMA) to enroll retailers in the program. Retailers interested in participating in the program can visit IRMA's website at www.helpgreenillinois.org.
