Ryan: $1.6 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for East Central Illinois
SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $1,665,400 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in East Central Illinois, including $300,000 to Niantic Fire Protection District to construct a larger firehouse.
The present facility was built in 1951, and is too small to house modern equipment. The firehouse will be built on a parcel of property donated by a local resident. The village is contributing $77,800.
This Illinois FIRST was initiated by State Rep. Bill Mitchell, R-Forsyth.
Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:
- $200,000 to Shelbyville Fire Protection District to purchase a ladder truck. The city is contributing $100,000.
This project was initiated by Mitchell. - $175,000 to the City of Hoopeston to excavate, tile, and enclose an open drainage ditch that is posing health concerns.
This project was initiated by State Rep. William Black, R-Danville. - $175,000 to the Village of Tower Hill to build a village hall with a storm shelter.
This project was initiated by Mitchell. - $170,000 to Shumway Fire Protection District to purchase a new truck and a tornado warning system. The village is contributing $21,000.

This project was initiated by Mitchell. - $134,000 to Macon County Sheriff's Department to purchase a new computer and Global Positioning System and fund the "Safe Haven Program".
This project was initiated by State Rep. Julie A. Curry, D-Mt. Zion. - $100,000 to Milliken University to construct Decatur Indoor Sports Complex. Milliken University and Decatur Park District are contributing $6,000,000.
This project was initiated by Curry. - $60,000 to Decatur Macon County Opportunities Corporation for relocation and renovations costs for Anna Water Head Start Program.
This project was initiated by State Sen. Duane Noland, R-Decatur. - $50,000 to Mid Illinois Senior Services, Inc. to purchase a new building to house the Thrif-T-Boutique and the Moultrie County RSVP program.

- $27,300 to the City of Ashmore to remove and replace a ceiling at the Ashmore Community Center.

This project was initiated by Black. - $20,000 to the Village of Catlin to upgrade communication and data processing for the Village Police Department.
