Ryan: $972,000 in Illinois FIRST Projects for Central Illinois

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $972,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Central Illinois, including $205,000 to the City of Mount Pulaski to build and equip a new sewage pump station.

The city's existing pump station is more than 40 years old and is too small to handle the current sewage flow. The problem has been exasperated recently following the expansion of a large industry in the city. The city is contributing $170,000.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. John Turner, R-Atlanta.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $70,000 to the Congerville Rural Fire protection District to help purchase a new 3,500-gallon tanker truck and pump.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Keith Sommer, R-Mackinaw.

  • $70,000 to the Germantown Fire Protection District to purchase a new pumper truck.
    This project was initiated by Sommer.

  • $60,000 to the Armington Fire Protection District to purchase a new pumper truck.
    This project was initiated by Sommer

  • $60,000 to the Arrowsmith Fire Department to purchase new equipment including hoses and EMS equipment.
    This project was initiated by Turner.

  • $60,000 to the Havana Fire Protection District to help purchase a new fire truck.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Robert Madigan, R-Lincoln.

  • $60,000 to the LeRoy Fire Protection District to purchase new firefighting equipment.
    This project was initiated by Madigan.

  • $60,000 to the Waynesville Fire Protection District to buy new equipment and to expand the fire station.
    This project was initiated by Turner.

  • $60,000 to the Northern Piatt County Fire Protection District to purchase new equipment, including defibrillators.
    This project was initiated by Turner.

  • $60,000 to the Easton Rural Fire Protection District to purchase a new pumper truck.
    This project was initiated by Turner.

  • $50,000 to the Manito Public Library District to help build a new 5,700 square foot library building. The district is contributing $600,000.
    The project was initiated by Turner.

  • $50,000 to the Mount Pulaski Emergency Medical Serviceto help purchase a new emergency response vehicle. The service is contributing $30,000.
    This project was initiated by Turner.

  • $50,000 to the LeRoy Emergency Ambulance Service to buy a new ambulance thatwill replace the current vehicle, which is eight years old.
    This project was initiated by Turner.

  • $33,000 to the Downs Community Fire Protection District to buy extrication equipment and a thermal imaging camera to help firefighters see through smoke and the dark.
    This project was initiated by Turner.

  • $20,000 to Palestine Township to purchase a new tractor/loader to help maintain township roads.
    This project was initiated by Madigan.

  • $20,000 to the Groveland Township Road District to help resurface Bloomington Road, South Pleasant Hill Road, Roth Road and Dufflemyer Road outside of East Peoria.
    This project was initiated by Sommer.

  • $20,000 to the Mackinaw Township Road District to repair and resurface township roads.
    This project was initiated by Sommer.

  • $20,000 to the Village of Spring Bay to purchase sirens for an emergency warning system.
    This project was initiated by Sommer.

  • $7,000 to the Chestnut Emergency Medical Services to buy equipment and finalize the purchase of an emergency response vehicle.
    This project was initiated by Turner.
