Ryan: $210,000 in Illinois FIRST Projects for Kankakee and Illinois River Valleys

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $210,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in the Kankakee and Illinois River Valleys, including $100,000 to the Lockport Township Park District to renovate the playgrounds at Arrowhead Park, Milne Grove School and Collegeview Park.

The new playgrounds will be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and will meet current safety guidelines.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated State Rep. Brent Hassert, R-Romeoville.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $75,000 to the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center of Will and Grundy Counties, Inc., to expand a parking lot. The corporation is contributing $97,500.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Larry Walsh, D-Elwood.

  • $30,000 to the Girl Scouts of Trailways Council, Inc., to construct learning laboratories, training rooms and computer workstations in its facility on Spencer Road.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Mary K. O'Brien, D-Coal City.

  • $5,000 to the Will/Grundy Center for Independent Living to provide modifications to the homes of eligible people with disabilities.
    This project was initiated by O'Brien.
