SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – In an effort to promote wellness and physical activity, the Illinois Department of Agriculture is sponsoring several fitness activities throughout the 2012 season of the Illinois Products Farmers’ Market.
The activities begin this week with “Zumba at the Market.” Local radio personalities Amy Meneghetti of WQQL and Liz Willis of WYMG challenge participants of all ages to participate in a free zumba class on Thursday, June 7, from 5:30-6:00 p.m. on Grandstand Ave. Advance registration is not required. Prizes will be awarded to participants in the best, retro, work-out attire, the person who brings the most participants and the most enthusiastic participant. All participants will receive a market tote bag and bottled water courtesy of Springfield Clinic.
Following zumba, Springfield YMCA cheerleading and gymnastics teams will demonstrate their high flying skills and provide information on youth activities available at the YMCA. Springfield Clinic Physical Therapy will share tips on healthy workouts and introduce its Recipe of the Week.
