Liquor Control Commission May Underage Compliance Report

SPRINGFIELD – In May the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) conducted compliance checks around the state and visited 114 businesses licensed to sell liquor.  They cited 24 licensees for violations of liquor control laws.  Seventy-nine percent of the licensees visited complied with Illinois liquor laws and refused to serve underage customers.

This report is a result of ongoing undercover and cooperative law enforcement operations conducted by Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) agents and local law enforcement officials and volunteers from high schools and colleges.  The teams randomly visit liquor stores, restaurants and bars in communities around the state to check for ongoing compliance with state laws mandating that no liquor is sold to minors under the age of 21. ILCC agents also work with local and state law enforcement agents to focus on communities with a high incidence of underage liquor sales.

Clark, Cumberland and Shelby Counties – On May 9th, 2012 the ILCC and the Illinois State Police District 12 conducted underage alcohol compliance checks in Shelby, Cumberland and Clark Counties. Of the 29 licensee’s checked, three sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• The Corner Bistro Company, 424 Archer, Marshall
• Old Gringo’s Mexican Eatery, 617 Archer, Marshall
• Travel Mart, 2801 N. York, Martinsville

Coles County – On May 2nd 2012 the ILCC and the Illinois State Police District 10 conducted underage alcohol checks in Coles County. Of the 22 licensee’s checked, six sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Mattoon Bowl, 1015 N. 15th, Mattoon
• Villa Nova, 516 Piatt, Mattoon
• Stadium Grill, 102 Dettro Dr. Mattoon
• Don Sol, 230 Broadway, Mattoon
• El Vaquero, 200 Holiday Dr. Mattoon
• La Casa Fiesta, 808 Lakeland Blvd. Mattoon

Elgin – On Tuesday, May 15, 2012 the ILCC along with Secretary of State Police conducted alcohol compliance checks in Elgin.  Of the 11 licensees checked, five sold to ILCC underage participants.  Those licensees were:

• Nick’s Liquors, 71 Clock Tower Plaza
• Azteca De Oro Restaurant, 260 National Street
• Price Rite Gas & Food, 180 Kimball
• Mudd & Eddie’s Pub, 302-G S. McLean
• Geno’s Fine Wine & Spirits, 300 S. McLean
 

Jackson County – On May 10th, 2012 the ILCC and the Illinois State Police District 8 conducted underage alcohol compliance checks in Jackson County. Of the 25 licensees checked, four sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Pinch Penny Liquors, 700 Grand Ave., Carbondale
• West Roads Liquor Mart, Murdale Shopping Center, Carbondale
• Mississippi Flyway, 1925 W. Main, Carbondale
• G & L Lounge, 1106 Locust, Murphysboro

Macon County – On May 9th, 2012 the ILCC and the Illinois State Police District 10 conducted underage alcohol compliance checks in Macon County. Of the 13 licensees checked, two sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar, 1275 S. RT # 51, Forsyth
• Hot Spot, 1108 W. Eldorado, Decatur


Tinley Park – On Thursday, May 31, 2012 the ILCC along with Secretary of State Police conducted an underage liquor compliance check in Tinley Park.  Of the 14 licensees checked, four sold to ILCC underage participants.  Those licensees were:

• Frankie’s Ristorante, 9501 W 171st Street
• Charley Horse Restaurant & Bar, 9501 W 171st Street
• Tinley Family Food & Liquor, 6800 W 183rd Street
• Ed & Joe’s Restaurant & Pizzeria,17332 S Oak Park Avenue
