Grand Champion Rabbit Meat Pen Selected
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – “If I win, I win. If I don’t, I don’t. It’s not about winning. I just enjoy showing,” Chelsea Wycoff said before her pen of Californian rabbits was selected as the Grand Champion Meat Pen of the 2012 Illinois State Fair.
This twelve-year-old Prairie Fire 4-H Member and Piper City native had a positive attitude going into Wednesday’s State Fair Junior Rabbit Show.
“I had really gotten far,” Wycoff said. “It wasn’t a big deal if I won or not.”
Reflecting on when she was announced as winner Wycoff said, “I was excited. I couldn’t believe it.”
Wycoff’s Grand Champion Meat Pen will be sold in Tuesday’s Governor’s Sale of Champions. When asked what she will do with the money from the sale, Wycoff said she hasn’t decided yet.
The Reserve Grand Champion title went to Saylor Welsch of El Paso. Welsch is ten-years-old and a member of the El Paso Champions 4-H Club.
