Village Of Prairie du Rocher To Receive Capital Development Fund

Press Release - Wednesday, September 01, 1999

PRAIRIE DU ROCHER -- Governor George H. Ryan announced that the $1,000,000 in Capital Development Bond funds for partial payment to implement the federal flood protection for the Village of Prairie du Rocher (Randolph County) in cooperation with local units of government.

"This program will give the citizens of the Village of Prairie du Rocher the assurance they need," Ryan said. "This fund should diminish the erosion of lands, the obstruction of drainage, the impairment or destruction of navigation, highways, railroads, and other channels of commerce within the State."

This project is being conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide 100-year level flood protection to the Prairie du Rocher and Randolph County against flooding from the Mississippi River.

This program is part of Governor Ryan's Illinois FIRST program, a $12 billion dollar public works program. More than $800 million is dedicated to environmental protection and preservation.

This release is from two Department of Natural Resources funds, a pot totaling $59 million and is an agency program.
