Liquor Control Commission March Underage Compliance Report

SPRINGFIELD – In March the Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) conducted compliance checks around the state and visited 220 businesses licensed to sell liquor.  They cited 28 licensees for violations of liquor control laws.  Eighty-seven percent of the licensees visited complied with Illinois liquor laws and refused to serve underage customers.

This report is a result of ongoing undercover and cooperative law enforcement operations conducted by Illinois Liquor Control Commission (ILCC) agents and local law enforcement officials and volunteers from high schools and colleges.  The teams randomly visit liquor stores, restaurants and bars in communities around the state to check for ongoing compliance with state laws mandating that no liquor is sold to minors under the age of 21. ILCC agents also work with local and state law enforcement agents to focus on communities with a high incidence of underage liquor sales.

Champaign County – On March 1, the ILCC, the Urbana and the Champaign Police Departments conducted alcohol underage compliance checks during the Unofficial St. Pat’s celebration in Champaign and Urbana. Of the 58 licensees checked, two licensees sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Schnuck’s Markets, 101 N. Mattis, Champaign
• Guido’s, 2 Main Street, Champaign

Clay, Jasper and Richland Counties – On March 20 the ILCC and the Illinois State Police District 12 conducted alcohol underage compliance checks in Jasper, Clay and Richland Counties. Of the 25 licensees checked, three sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• El Cactus Mexican Grill, 200 W. Main, Olney
• La Fuente Mexican Restaurant, 1080 E. North Ave., Flora
• Midtown Package Liquors, 306 North Ave., Flora

Elmwood Park – On March 5, the ILCC and the Elmwood Park Police department conducted alcohol underage compliance checks in Elmwood Park. Of the 20 licensees checked 5 licensees sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• PK’s Pantry, 22 Conti Parkway
• Cigarette People, 2900 N. Harlem
• Burger Boss, 7512 W. North Ave.
• A & D Food & Liquors, 7705 W. Belmont
• On the Rocks, 2104 N. Harlem

Franklin and Williamson Counties – On March 21 the ILCC and the Illinois State Police District 13 conducted alcohol compliance checks in Franklin and Williamson Counties. Of the 28 licensees checked, five sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• K-Mart Store # 9680, #3West Frankfort Plaza, West Frankfort
• Tom’s Mad Pricer, 1000 W. Main, West Frankfort
• Logan Street Liquors, 502 S. Logan St., West Frankfort
• Casey General Store # 2388, 310 N. Christopher Rd., Zeigler
• Kritter’s, 208 S. Main, Royalton

Macoupin – On March 13, the ILCC and the Illinois State Police District 18 conducted alcohol underage compliance checks in Macoupin County. Of the 34 licensees checked, seven sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Staunton Columbian Club, 20631 Staunton Rd., Staunton
• Cavataio’s Restaurant, 101 S. Edwardsville Rd., Staunton
• R & B Family Restaurant, 802 S. Hackman, Staunton
• Bamboo Garden, 121 S. Edwardsville, Staunton
• TJ’s Enterprise, 205 Hard Rd., Benld
• Chestney’s, 116 N. Washington, Bunker Hill
• Hurley’s Main Street Saloon, 113 W. Main, Mt. Olive

St. Clair County – On March 13, the ILCC and the Illinois State Police District 11 conducted alcohol underage compliance checks in St Clair County. Of the 21 licensees checked, six sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants. Those licensees were:

• Faye Inn, 2503 Main Ave., Fayetteville
• Dave’s West End, 7160 State Rte. 15, Marissa
• Casey General Store # 1986, 943 N. Main, Marissa
• Denny Ray’s, 600 E. Lyons St., Marissa
• The Brick, 116 N. Main, Marissa
• Buck’s BP, 108 S. State, Freeburg
 

Woodford County – On March 20, the ILCC and the Woodford County Sheriff’s Department conducted alcohol underage compliance checks in Woodford County. Of the 34 licensees checked, none sold alcohol to ILCC underage participants.
