Governor Quinn Announces More than $800,000 for Camp Lincoln Geothermal System

SPRINGFIELD – Governor Pat Quinn today announced more than $800,000 to install a geothermal system in the Adjutant General’s Office (AGO) Building at Springfield’s Camp Lincoln. The funds come from the U.S. Department of Energy through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and are part of Governor Quinn’s agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois’ economy. Contracts were recently awarded for the project following a competitive bidding process. The work addresses some of Illinois’ critical infrastructure needs and creates good construction jobs. 

“This project will utilize the latest green technology to help us save on energy costs,” Governor Quinn said. “It will also help us continue to ensure Illinois has a strong, 21st century infrastructure while creating construction jobs and boosting the area economy.”
 
Reliable Plumbing & Heating Company of Savoy, Illinois was the lowest of four bidders for the heating and air conditioning portion of the project on their quote of $777,000. Egizii Electric Inc. Division of EEI Holding Corporation of Springfield received the electrical contract for $37,337, the lowest of four bids submitted.

The project includes retrofitting or replacing the boiler and chiller equipment in the AGO Building with a geothermal system. This will involve installing a well field and adapting it to the existing heating and cooling system. The AGO Building, the Illinois National Guard State Headquarters facility, is an 87,669-square-foot, four-story masonry and steel frame building constructed in 1978 with an addition constructed in 1989.

The project will be administered by the Capital Development Board, which manages all non-road, state-funded construction projects.
