Governor Announces 1999 Community Development Assistance Program Housing Rehabilitation Grants

Press Release - Monday, October 25, 1999

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced 29 communities will share $7 million in 1999 Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP) Housing Rehabilitation grant awards.

"These grants provide help to families that simply can't afford to repair their homes on their own," Ryan said. "In many cases the homes have structural problems that if not corrected, could endanger the safety of the occupants."

The CDAP grants are available to local governments throughout the state for rehabilitation of substandard housing units occupied by low to moderate-income families. Grant funds will be used to correct building code violations of substandard housing. Typical rehabilitation work will include repairs to the mechanical and structural elements of the homes (foundation, heating, plumbing and electrical systems, etc.) as well as roofs, windows, doors and handicap accessibility needs.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA) administers the CDAP program. Seventy applications were received from across the state totaling more than $17.5 million. A competitive application review was conducted and funding amounts were determined based on applications with the highest ratings.

"This grant program is a good example of how government can improve the quality of life for families across this state," said DCCA Director Pam McDonough. "The investment we make in these homes is returned in the form of safer neighborhoods and more productive workers who don't have to worry about providing shelter for their families."

The following 29 CDAP grant recipients will use the funds to rehabilitate single family homes (s.f.h.):
