Massachusetts Governor to Make Good on Stanley Cup Wager with Governor Quinn
Stanley Cup Will Soon Arrive at Executive Mansion for Public Viewing

CHICAGO – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn today announced that Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick will make good on their Stanley Cup wager by volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Governor Quinn, a longtime Chicago Blackhawks fan, also announced that team owner Rocky Wirtz will bring the Stanley Cup to the Illinois Executive Mansion in Springfield later this summer for public viewing, just as he did when the Blackhawks won the cup in 2010.

“Governor Patrick’s next power play will be right here in Illinois serving with our volunteers at the Greater Chicago Food Depository,” Governor Quinn said. “The Bruins performed admirably in one of the best Stanley Cup finals I’ve ever seen, but they were no match for the mighty Chicago Blackhawks. On behalf of the people of Illinois, I want to thank the Blackhawks for one of the greatest hockey seasons ever. I encourage people across America to follow Governor Patrick to Illinois, where you can cruise Lake Michigan, tour the Lincoln sites and see the Stanley Cup – a true Illinois hat trick.”

The Stanley Cup will reprise its 2010 visit to the Illinois Executive Mansion in Springfield later this summer, where the public may view the trophy free of charge. The date of the public display will be announced at a later date.

On June 11, the two governors announced their wager on the outcome of the series between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins for professional hockey’s top prize. Under the terms of the wager, the governor of the losing team’s state would volunteer at the food bank of the winning governor’s choice.

The Chicago Blackhawks have now won five Stanley Cup championships. The Boston Bruins have won the Cup six times, most recently in 2011.
