Ryan Makes Appointments To Boards And Commissions

SPRINGFIELD - Governor George H. Ryan today announced the following appointments to Illinois boards and commissions:

To the Advanced Practice Nursing Board:

* George H. Paige, 68, of Crete, an appointment for a term ending August 31, 2003. Paige is retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Members of the Advanced Practice Nursing Board are paid expenses only. The appointment does not require Senate confirmation.

To the Advisory Board to the Department of Natural Resources:

* Dr. John J. Swalec, 65, of Batavia, an appointment for a term ending January 16, 2006. Swalec is President of Waubonsee Community College.

Members of the Advisory Board to the Department of Natural Resources are paid expenses only. The appointment does not require Senate confirmation.

To the Advisory Council on the Education of Children with Disabilities:

* Venus D. Ellerson Austin, 49, of Chicago, an appointment for a term ending June 30, 2001. Austin is a School Social Worker.

* Jan Cleveland, 53, of Carmi, an appointment for a term ending June 30, 2002. Cleveland is a Special Education Teacher.

To the Affordable Housing Advisory Commission:

* Rance D. Carpenter, 45, of Springfield, a reappointment for a term ending October 1, 2000. Carpenter is Bureau Chief for Planning and Program Management with the Illinois Department on Aging.

* Peter Dwars, 50, of Chicago, designated as Chairman with an unspecified term length. Dwars is Executive Director for the Illinois Housing Development Authority.

* Daniel L. Goodwin, 57, of Oak Brook, an appointment for a term ending October 1, 2001. Goodwin is Chairman of the Board of Directors for The Inland Group, Inc.

* Henry C. Mendoza, 55, of Chicago, a reappointment for a term ending October 1, 2000. Mendoza is Vice Chair and CEO of Nina International, L.L.C.

* Willie B. Nelson, Sr., 67, of East St. Louis, a reappointment for a term ending October 1, 2001. Nelson is a retired banker.

* Sheila Romano, 37, of Naperville, an appointment for a term ending October 1, 2000. Romano is Executive Director of the Illinois Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities.

To the Capital Development Board:

* Michael Skoubis, 39, of Des Plaines, an appointment for a term ending January 19, 2004. Skoubis is a partner/attorney at Skoubis & Skoubis, LTD.

To the Illinois Clean Energy Community Trust:

* Pete Peters, 64, of Chicago, designated as Chairman for a term ending December 13, 2004. Peters is a retired Illinois State Representative.

Peters will receive an annual salary of $25,000. The appointment does not require Senate confirmation.

To the Illinois Council on Aging:

* Joyce Flynn-Childress, 66, of Aurora, an appointment for a term ending January 1, 2003. Flynn-Childress is a Registered Nurse and Staff Educator at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

To the Board of Credit Union Advisors:

* Charles Rutan, 47, of Champaign, a reappointment for a term ending January 20, 2003. Rutan is President of the University of Illinois Employees' Credit Union. * Cheryl Ann Taylor, 52, of Springfield, a reappointment for a term ending January 20, 2003. Taylor is Executive Vice President of the Sangamon School Credit Union.

* John W. Galbreath, 50, of Alton, an appointment for a term ending April 6, 2002. Galbreath is a Chiropractic Physician.

* Ronald B. McMullen, 49, of Godfrey, an appointment for a term ending April 6, 2004. McMullen is President of the Alton Memorial Hospital.

* Andrew H. Melczer, 45, of Evanston, an appointment for a term ending April 6, 2004. Melczer is Vice President for Health Policy Research with the Illinois State Medical Society.

* Stewart I. Odell, 61, of Winfield, an appointment for a term ending April 6, 2002. Odell is Secretary-Treasurer of DuKane Obstetrics and Gynecology Ltd.

* William Rollow, 48, of Evanston, an appointment for a term ending April 6, 2002. Rollow is Vice President for Medical Management at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois.
