Governor Quinn Statement on the Fourth of July

Press Release - Friday, July 04, 2014

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - Governor Pat Quinn today issued the following statement on the Fourth of July:

"Today we celebrate our independence and the founding of our democracy.

"We also honor the servicemembers of our great state and nation who have protected our freedoms for centuries. We owe a debt of gratitude for their bravery, sacrifice and unwavering dedication to our nation and its citizens.

"As we work to continue improving the lives of the people of our state and nation by increasing access to healthcare, giving everyone an opportunity for a quality education and further empowering our citizens, it's important to reflect on all those who have made this possible.

"Two hundred thirty-eight years ago our nation was born on a promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These ideals are what make the United States of America so special.

"I wish everyone across Illinois a happy Fourth of July and remind all to be safe on this busy holiday weekend."
