GOVERNOR ANNOUNCES ILLINOIS FIRST GRANT FOR CITY OF GENEVA

Press Release - Monday, December 18, 2000

CHICAGO -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced approval of a $281,000 Illinois FIRST grant to the city of Geneva for building an extension of Geneva Drive to serve Millard Refrigerated Services.

The company-which stores food products requiring refrigeration-is expanding its operation, adding another 200,000 square-foot facility and 130 new workers to its current 190 employees.

"One of my priorities is for the state to be a good partner with local governments and the private sector by making sure that the transportation system can support economic growth, Gov. Ryan said.

"The addition of 130 new jobs is important to the residents of this area. It is a very good example of how Illinois FIRST helps improve the quality of life in local communities."

The project involves extending Geneva Drive 1,850 feet west of Kautz Road to provide better access to the expanded facility.

The Illinois FIRST funds will pay for 50 percent of the cost of the work, with the city of Geneva responsible for the remaining half.

The funds are allocated under the Economic Development Program administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The program targets transportation improvements that help communities retain or attract businesses and associated jobs.
