Governor Ryan Declares Day of Prayer and Remembrance in Illinois

CHICAGO -- Governor George H. Ryan today declared Friday, September 14, 2001 a "Day of Prayer and Remembrance" in Illinois in support of the American people and in remembrance of the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

"We will all join together as citizens of Illinois and sons and daughters of America in a day of prayer and remembrance," said Governor Ryan. "Today we stand together united in support of the spirit of freedom and democracy that will prevail in spite of this cowardly terrorist act."

Governor Ryan encourages all citizens of Illinois to take time during their lunch hour to offer a prayer or thoughtful reflection in a moment of silence.

"People from all over the world have been touched by this tragedy. The people of Illinois have poured out their hearts to the victims and families and to the heroic firefighters, police officers, doctors and nurses," added Governor Ryan. "Let us unite today in prayer and remembrance for our loss, for the future of our great nation and for freedom and democracy."
