Ryan: $354,500 in Illinois FIRST Projects for the West Suburbs

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $354,500 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in the West Suburbs, including $230,900 to the City of Naperville for the first phase of engineering associated with roadway improvements to Illinois Route 59 between Ferry Road and Meridian Parkway/Glacier Park Avenue.

Construction of the project will alleviate congestion, add additional traffic capacity and reduce motor vehicle accidents on this portion of roadway. The city is contributing $710,000.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $50,000 to the City of Geneva to complete its Third Street streetscape enhancement improvements in its historic downtown area. The city is contributing $32,818.

  • $50,000 to the Heritage YMCA Group to renovate the boiler, the radiant hot water system and the HVAC blower units at the Aurora Family YMCA Center.

  • $13,500 to the Salvation Army Golden Diners' Program, Geneva, to purchase a van.

  • $10,100 to the Association for Individual Development to purchase assistive technology, speech therapy, sensori-motor and gait training equipment for the Stephens-Adamson Center in Aurora.
