Ryan Makes Appointment to the Gaming Board

SPRINGFIELD -- Gov. George H. Ryan today appointed Tobias G. Barry to the Illinois Gaming Board.

The Governor said Barry will contribute greatly to the board because of his experience both as a former member of the Illinois General Assembly and as a former Appellate Court Judge serving the Third District. He will fill the position previously held by Stuart P. Levine who recently resigned.

"Mr. Barry has served the people of Illinois for over 40 years, and I am confident that he will continue his record of accomplishments in his new position with the Illinois Gaming Board," said Governor Ryan.

"The work of the Gaming Board is important and challenging and today's appointment further reflects my desire to appoint individuals with great integrity and success in various fields that represent a diverse background of experience."

Barry, 77, of Ladd, Illinois, is an attorney with the firm of Aplington, Kaufman, McClintock, Steele and Barry, Ltd. in LaSalle, consulting in arbitration and mediation. He belongs to various Bar Associations and has served as President of both the Illinois Judges Association and the Lawyers Assistance Program. He served as a member of the Illinois House of Representatives for 14 years (1960-1974) and as a Third District Appellate Judge for 20 years (1974-1993).

Barry's appointment requires Senate confirmation.
