Governor Offers Thanksgiving Message

Press Release - Wednesday, November 24, 1999

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today encouraged all Illinoisans to reflect upon their many blessings and remember the less fortunate while celebrating Thanksgiving this year.

"Illinoisans have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Our state, and indeed our entire nation, is enjoying a time of peace and prosperity. This thanksgiving holiday, it is important to not only give thanks for the many blessings in our lives, but to share those blessings with the less fortunate.

"As we sit down this Thanksgiving to celebrate with family and friends, let us renew our commitment to include those in need in our thoughts, prayers and deeds."

The Ryan's will observe their first Thanksgiving at the Executive Mansion with a traditional meal. The Governor and First Lady will celebrate with family, including their six children and thirteen grandchildren.

"Unfortunately, with the holiday season comes increased traffic and more highway accidents and fatalities. Please celebrate responsibly and make sure you and your loved ones buckle up for safety.

"From our family to yours, have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend."
