Governor Heralds Motorola For High-Tech Achievements

SCHAUMBURG -- Governor George H. Ryan promoted technology projects in Illinois at a tour of Motorola Worldwide Headquarters.

"We've invested $100 million in direct technology projects in my first year alone and we will build on that foundation in the years to come, said Governor Ryan. "We've got four world-class research universities, hundreds of research labs, including the world-renowned Argonne and Fermi Labs, and one of the nation's two supercomputer centers, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications."

Governor Ryan's tour at the Motorola facility included a visit to the Customer Center for Systems Integration where radio communication systems are staged and supported for customers such as the State of Michigan, the LAPD and Commonwealth Edison.

Governor Ryan and Chris Galvin, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Motorola also discussed the state's technology agenda with Steve Mitchell, Chairman of the Illinois Coalition and Pam McDonough, Director of the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs. The Illinois Coalition is a non-profit organization of leaders in business, government, labor and academia working to encourage technology-based economic development in Illinois.
