Governor and First Lady Host Halloween at Executive Mansion

Press Release - Friday, October 25, 2002

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor and Mrs. Ryan will be hosting all kindergarten through 6th grade school children to parade in their costumes at the Illinois Executive Mansion for the annual "No Tricks-Just Treats!" on Sunday, October 27, 2002 from 4PM to 6PM.

"This is always a wonderful affair for the children, and I look forward to seeing them in their Halloween costumes," said Mrs. Ryan. "This event provides a safe, fun and educational opportunity for the children to visit one of the state's greatest treasures."

The Halloween festivities will begin at noon on Sunday at the Illinois State Armory, corner of Second and Monroe Streets. Under the sponsorship of the Illinois State Museum children will be able to spend the afternoon enjoying hands-on Halloween activities. Every hour will bring new and exciting programs. The cost for the Armory program is $2 per child and accompanying adults will be admitted free.

At 4PM there will be a "Parade of Costumes" from the Armory to the Illinois Executive Mansion.

Mrs. Ryan will welcome the children and their parents to the Mansion, which is located at 410 East Jackson Street in Springfield.

The Illinois Candy Distributors and Manufacturers have sponsored the Executive Mansion's "No Tricks-Just Treats!" for the past 14 years.

"The candy distributors from throughout the state are happy to have the opportunity to again hold this very worthwhile family event at the Executive Mansion," said Harry L. Kelley, a representative of the Illinois Candy Distributors and Manufacturers. "We thank all the manufacturers who have donated their products to help make this a fun, safe and traditional event for the children."

The festivities at the Mansion are free and each child will receive a bag of Halloween candy.
