Governor announces $12,500 grant to City of Peoria

Press Release - Thursday, February 05, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded a $12,501 grant to the City of Peoria for the Neighborhood Development Commission.  The Commission is building retaining walls along the 1700 and 1800 blocks of Bigelow Street in Peoria.  This is the final installment on a $35,000 grant for this project.

"We want to assist our communities in their efforts to encourage reinvestment in their neighborhoods, and this project will help the City of Peoria to reach that goal," said Governor Blagojevich.

The retaining walls are part of the process of rehabilitating an area plagued by gang and drug activity.  The City of Peoria is also receiving funds from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

"This project will assist in completing the rehabilitation project which will encourage more reinvestment and neighborhood involvement while making for a safer and more pleasant area to live.  I want to thank the Governor for providing these important funds for our community project," said grant sponsor State Representative Ricca Slone.
