Governor announces over $500,000 for suburban public safety projects
CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today authorized the payment of over
$500,000 for eight projects in McHenry County, Calumet City, Gilberts, Glenside, Highwood, Lakewood, Villa Park and the Newport Township Fire Protection District in northwest Lake County. The projects focus on public safety improvements and initiatives.
"Our firefighters and police officers put their lives on the line for the residents of their communities every day and they deserve to have up-to-date equipment, stations and training facilities available to them," said Governor Blagojevich.
The projects being funded include a grant for
$200,000 to the Newport Township Fire Protection on behalf of the Northwest Lake County Fire Training Cooperative for construction of a fire simulation tower for firefighter training. The Northwest Lake County Fire Training Cooperative is comprised of fire departments including Newport Township, Antioch, Fox Lake, Grayslake, Lake Villa and Round Lake. Training has also been provided to fire departments from other surrounding communities.
