Governor announces $25,000 grant for public works vehicle

Press Release - Friday, February 06, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded a $25,000 state grant to the Village of Sun River Terrace for the purchase of a public works vehicle.

"It is important to provide the appropriate resources, when necessary, to disadvantaged communities in order to help them meet the basic needs of their residents," said Governor Blagojevich.

Without the public works vehicle, the village is dependent on other municipalities for assistance with snow plowing, gravel hauling and other basic public works uses.  Purchasing the vehicle outright will save the village the fees it pays other communities for the use of their equipment.  There are 500 residents of Sun River Terrace, 80% of who are considered disadvantaged or low-income.

"This project will help improve the public infrastructure of Sun River Terrace," said State Representative Lisa Dugan the current legislative sponsor for this project.  The project was originally sponsored by former State Representative Phil Novak.
