Governor announces $21,000 grant for Midwest Youth Services

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded a $21,779 grant for a roof replacement project at the Youth Attention Center in Jacksonville.  The funds are part of a $50,000 grant for the project, which has a remaining balance of $3,221.

 

"I'm pleased we are able to award these funds in order to improve the physical conditions of this facility which will improve the environment for the youth participating in the center's programs," said Governor Blagojevich.

 

Midwest Youth Services operates the Youth Attention Center at 2001 West Lafayette in Jacksonville.  The center has been plagued by consistent roof leaks for several years. The project will include installation of a new roof system and repairs to interior damage caused by the leaks.

 

The Youth Attention Center serves approximately 1,000 people annually in Brown, Cass, Schuyler, Morgan and Scott counties.

 

"Many of our disadvantaged and low-income residents have come to rely on the programs provided by Midwest Youth Services and that is why it is so important the Governor's provided  these funds," said State Representative, Jim Watson, the legislative sponsor for this project.  He continued by saying, "I would like to thank the Governor for his interest in our community."

 

"I'm happy to have been able to provide my support for this grant which is so important for the youth of West Central Illinois and Jacksonville in particular," said State Senator Vince Demuzio.
