Governor awards $100,000 to the Rutland Dundee Township Fire Protection District

Press Release - Wednesday, March 31, 2004

CHICAGO - Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today awarded $100,000 in funding to the Rutland Dundee Township Fire Protection District.  The district is constructing an addition to its Station #1 in Gilberts in order to provide living and sleeping quarters for firefighters.

"As our communities continue to grow, state and local governments need to help provide the services necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents," said Governor Blagojevich.  "This project helps to achieve that goal in Gilberts."

Due to a lack of living and sleeping quarters, the fire protection district was only able to staff one station overnight.  The expansion to Station #1 at 11 East Higgins Road will help provide shorter emergency response times in an area that is growing rapidly.  The district has already increased staffing to meet these needs but the facilities were inadequate to handle the added staff.

"The people of Gilberts are going to see improved fire protection services as a result of this expansion project, especially during the overnight hours," said State Representative Timothy Schmitz who sponsored the grant.  "I want to thank the Governor for committing the funds for this project."
