Governor announces new around-the-clock phone access to I-Pass account information
New voice response system lets I-PASS users connect to customer representatives, check account balances, and add account information anytime, anyplace

DOWNERS GROVEGovernor Rod R. Blagojevich and the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority, continuing to make it easier for drivers to manage their I-PASS accounts, announced, today, a new phone system giving I-PASS users instant phone access to their account information 24-hours-a-day. With its new Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system, one phone call to 1-800-UC-IPASS (1-800-824-7277) will allow people without access to a computer to easily maintain their I-PASS accounts anytime, anyplace.

By calling this toll-free number day or night, I-PASS users can now check balances on their I-PASS account, add money to their transponders with a credit or debit card, update credit card or vehicle information, and even create a PIN to access I-PASS accounts online.  I-PASS customers can still speak directly with a live customer service representative during regular business hours, and they can also visit www.getipass.com 24-hours a day, 7 days a week to access their accounts online.

The new IVR system is just one more example of how the Tollway is making it as easy as possible for people to get an I-PASS and manage their accounts. The IVR system is also aimed at increasing operating efficiencies, since it is expected to reduce the on-hold time for customers waiting to be served by I-PASS Customer Care representatives.

“The Tollway’s new tool for I-PASS users is a good example of how government can use technology to make services more convenient,” said Governor Rod R. Blagojevich. “It’s also part of our effort to reduce congestion through increased I-PASS usage, so Tollway customers spend more time with their families and less time in their cars.”

“This new IVR technology is an added convenience for our customers and helps meet our reform goal of operating more like a business,” said Tollway Executive Director Jack Hartman. “The Tollway is following the route of banks and other financial institutions that use an IVR system to allow their customers account access anytime of day.”

The Illinois State Toll Highway Authority maintains and operates 274 miles of interstate tollways in 12 counties in Northern Illinois, including the East-West Tollway (I-88), the North-South Tollway (I-355), the Northwest Tollway (I-90) and the Tri-State Tollway (I-94, I-294, I-80/I-294). The Illinois Tollway offers customers I-PASS electronic toll collection for congestion relief and ease of travel.  Customers can buy an I-PASS at Jewel-Osco or online at www.getipass.com, where existing I-PASS customers can now also manage their account online.
