QUINN VISITS SPRINGFIELD STATE FAIR TO PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE FIREARM OWNERSHIP EDUCATION

Press Release - Monday, August 16, 2004

SPRINGFIELD—Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn was at the State Fair in Springfield to hand out free gunlocks and campaign for responsible firearm ownership education.

At least 1,500 free gunlocks were distributed at the Lieutenant Governor's State Fair tent on Friday, the first day of the fair.

Quinn, in partnership with Project Childsafe - a nationwide program aiming to cut down on firearm-related accidents- promotes the 2004 Project ChildSafe safety tour to help better inform Illinoisans about gun safety and support the distribution of free gun locks to firearm owners across the state.

"This is a grassroots program that has proven to help prevent tragedies," said Quinn. "Each and every individual can exercise their power to protect their children, make their community safer and encourage responsible gun handling by getting involved in Project ChildSafe."

Project ChildSafe will distribute 20 million free gunlocks nationwide and will utilize 15 education vehicles to bring safety tours to thousands of communities across the United States.
