Ryan: $601,000 in Illinois FIRST Projects for Metro East Illinois

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $601,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Central Illinois, including $200,000 to the village of Maryville for an addition to the Village Hall and Police Department Facility.

These additions will provide needed space to the village, due to the growth in population, increase in police officers and telecommunications personnel.The village is contributing $600,000.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Jay C. Hoffman, D-Collinsville.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $110,000 to the Metro East Sanitary District for the purchase of two heavy-duty mowers and two tractors.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. James F. Clayborne,Jr., D-East St. Louis.

  • $70,000 to the Village of Maryville for the purchase of two ESDA warning sirens and a dump truck for the Department of Public Works.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Evelyn M. Bowles, D-Edwardsville.

  • $51,000 to the American Red Cross, Centralia Chapter for the purchase of 16 Heartstart automated external defibrillators to be placed in Sheriff's cars.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Frank C. Watson, R-Carlyle.

  • $50,000 to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville to renovate and purchase equipment for a new technology incubator.
    This project was initiated by Bowles.

  • $40,000 to the Salem Fire Department to purchase new equipment and rehab old equipment.
    This project was initiated by Watson

  • $25,000 to the Edwardsville Children's Museum to provide educational exhibits and programs.
    This project was initiated by Bowles.

  • $25,000 to the Village of Glen Carbon for the purchase of a new police car.
    This project was initiated by Bowles.

  • $25,000 to the City of Edwardsville Police Department to purchase and install an outdoor warning system. The city is contributing $10,000.
    This project was initiated by Bowles.

  • $5,000 to Granite City School District #9 to install a new lighting system at the Senior High School.
    This project was initiated by Bowles.
