Ryan: $715,000 in Illinois FIRST Projects for Lake County

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $715,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects Lake County, including $500,000 to the Village of Riverwoods to pay for the engineering, construction management and installation of water system interconnections. Approximately one-half of its residents obtain their water from a municipal well and this project will help extend Lake Michigan water to all the residents. The village will contribute $50,000.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Sen. Terry Link, D-Vernon Hills.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $75,000 to the Lake County Sheriff's Department to purchase a joint mobile command post, a self-contained, diesel powered vehicle that responds to emergencies and natural and environmental disasters.

  • $75,000 to the Village of Vernon Hills to develop the former Nike Base property in conjunction with area school districts for school and recreational facilities.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Sidney H. Mathias, R-Buffalo Grove.

  • $65,000 to Shield Township to fund a contractual agreement with the Lake County Sheriff's Department for additional police patrols in unincorporated areas. Part of the funds will be used to reconstruct an area sidewalk.
