$3.7 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for Southern Illinois

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $3.779 million in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Southern Illinois, including $675,000 to ARC-Community Support Systems to construct an addition and to remodel its facility on Harvestor Street in Teutopolis.

The new addition will house laundry, production, toilet/changing, adult day care, and storage areas, along with a conference room. Remodeling will include four new classrooms and offices. This project will alleviate overcrowding and allow additional persons with disabilities into ARC programs.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Charles A. Hartke, D-Teutopolis.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $400,000 to the Village of Crossville to complete phase II of its water system expansion in Phillips Township.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. William O' Daniel, D-Mt. Vernon.

  • $400,000 to the Village of Woodlawn to bring portable water service to 64 rural homes in Jefferson County and fire protection for a new expansion at the Woodlawn Grade School. The village is contributing $36,000.
    This project was initiated by O'Daniel.

  • $393,000 to the City of Herrin to design and construct a water main in the southern portion of the city.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Larry D. Woolard, D-Carterville.

  • $250,000 to the City of Carterville to make architectural improvements to the new Tri-C Elementary School.
    This project was initiated by Woolard.

  • $150,000 to the Village of Royalton to construct a new village hall.
    This project was initiated by Woolard.

  • $100,000 to the Village of Fairmount City to replace a section of the sewer along Highway 40.

  • $100,000 to Johnston City to purchase a new pumper truck.
    This project was initiated by Woolard.

  • $100,000 to the City of Grayville to construct an addition to its city hall and to remodel the existing structure. The city is contributing $30,000.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. John O. Jones, R-Mt. Vernon.

  • $100,000 to Wabash County to replace the roof on its county courthouse and the sheriff's office.
    This project was initiated by O'Daniel.

  • $100,000 to the Village of Makanda to resurface McGuire Road and Baptist Hill Road.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Mike Bost, R-Murphysboro.

  • $100,000 to the City of Omaha to renovate its water tower.
    This project was initiated by Woolard.

  • $60,000 to the Village of Dowell as a partial payment toward the construction of a new main water line extension. The village is contributing $10,000.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. David Luechtefeld, R-Okawville.

  • $56,000 to Frankfort Community Park District to complete the construction of a park pool.
    This project was initiated by House Republican Leader Lee A. Daniels, R-Elmhurst.

  • $50,000 to the Pope County Senior Citizens Council to construct an addition to its existing facility for a community health clinic. The council is contributing $255,000.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Jim Fowler, D-Harrisburg.

  • $50,000 to the Village of Dongola Fire Department to purchase fire and safety equipment.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $50,000 to Horseshoe Lake Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a fire truck and twelve handheld radios.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $30,000 to the Harrisburg Fire Department to purchase a new fire truck. The department is contributing $315,000.
    This project was initiated by Daniels.

  • $30,000 to the Hardin County Water Company to upgrade its water system.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $30,000 to the Village of Smithton to install a new waterline.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Dan Reitz, D-Steeleville.

  • $30,000 to the Southeast Illinois Regional Planning & Development Board to help restructure its Revolving Loan Fund program. The board is contributing $60,000.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $30,000 to the Village of Elizabethtown to design and construct a building to serve as a city hall, an administrative office and a public meeting facility.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $30,000 to the Village of Ulin to install sidewalks to a senior citizen assisted living facility and to install waterlines and fire hydrants in an area of the village that is currently not served by public waterlines.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $25,000 to the Saline County Tourism Board to construct a statue of Tecumseh, a statesman of the Shawnee Indian Tribe. The statue will be placed at the Cave Hill Trailhead in the Glenn O. Jones Lake area. The board is contributing $15,000.

  • $25,000 to the Saline County Sheriff's Department to purchase a computer network data system and related network supplies.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $25,000 to the Village of Cave In Rock to purchase park equipment.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $25,000 to the Village of Elizabethtown to purchase a new fire engine for its local volunteer fire department.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $20,000 to the Village of Thebes to update fire and safety equipment for its fire and police departments.
    This project was initiated by Fowler.

  • $20,000 to the Village of Baldwin to construct a community center on West Elm Street.
    This project was initiated by Luechtefeld.

  • $20,000 to the Village of Carrier Mills to renovate the exterior of a town building and purchase equipment for its police, fire, water and street departments.

  • $20,000 to the Pope County Sheriff's Department to purchase public safety equipment and computer software.

  • $20,000 to the Shawneetown Police Department to purchase a new police car.

  • $15,000 to the City of Zeigler Police Department to purchase a new police car.

  • $15,000 to the Village of Baldwin to repair and replace numerous sections of sidewalk throughout the village.

  • $15,000 to the Clay County Fair Association to purchase a utility tractor and mower.

  • $15,000 to the Brookport Fire Department to purchase fire and safety equipment.

  • $10,000 to the Pope County Family Counseling Center to implement prevention programs and resource awareness within the community.

  • $10,000 to the Village of Cypress to purchase bleachers to be used for events and activities within the community.

  • $10,000 to Gallatin County Soil & Water Conservancy District to purchase equipment and supplies used to deliver operational and educational programs at the local level.

  • $10,000 to the Village of Thebes to repair the porch of the Thebes Historic Courthouse, a national historic landmark.

  • $10,000 to the Village of Percy Police Department to purchase a new police car.

  • $5,000 to the Mainstreet Eldorado Corporation to renovate a donated building which they will then sell. The proceeds will be used to create a revolving renovation fund.

  • $5,000 to Shawnee Community College to provide supplies, food and transportation for students enrolled in its Project Success program.

  • $4,000 to the Washington County Emergency Telephone Systems Board to purchase a plotter/printer, a specialized piece of equipment used to produce maps of the entire county.
