Ryans Release 2000 Income Tax Returns

SPRINGFIELD - Governor George H. Ryan and First Lady Lura Lynn Ryan today made public their federal and state income tax returns for 2000.

"I pledged when I announced my candidacy for governor that I would release my tax returns for every year that I am governor and I will keep that pledge," Ryan said.

The Ryans' 2000 returns show they paid $40,354 in state and federal income taxes. The Ryans' adjusted gross income for 2000 was $145,872. That included $9,984 for which the Gov. and Mrs. Ryan paid federal taxes for gifts purchased by the Citizens for Ryan Campaign Committee for occasions such as Christmas, birthday, anniversary and funeral condolences.

The Ryans paid $34,800 in federal taxes and are owed a refund of $4,072. They paid $5,554 in state taxes and are owed a refund of $1,809.
