Governor Releases Funds For Technology Improvements At Western Illinois University

Press Release - Thursday, April 20, 2000

SPRINGFIELD-Governor George H. Ryan today announced the release of more than $424,000 in state funds to cover technological infrastructure improvements in classrooms, the library and other buildings at Western Illinois University in Macomb.

"This money will help allow Western Illinois University expand their instructional offerings by providing more and better access to the Internet," Ryan said.

The money will be used to upgrade 20 classrooms for multimedia use, to renovate the Library to create an Electronic and Instructional Classroom, and to install approximately 100 Internet connections in classroom buildings campus-wide. The project will also provide upgrading Ethernet service between campus buildings.

Work will begin in May and should be substantially complete in time for the Fall semester.

Funding for this project is provided through Capital Development Bond Funds.
