Ryan Announces $174,400 In Illinois First Funds For Red Bud

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced $174,400 in Illinois FIRST funds to Red Bud for extending Kaskaskia Street to a new manufacturing plant at the city's Industrial Park.

"The addition of 39 new jobs in the Red Bud area is a significant step in the city's effort to rebuild its economic base," Ryan said. "The state plays an important role as partner with our communities to make sure that the transportation system that can keep and attract new businesses."

The road extension will serve a new, 16,000 square-foot facility being built by Secon Rubber and Plastics, Inc. to accommodate its expansion. The company's expansion will create a four-fold increase in jobs, from the current 13 to 52.

"This is one of many examples where Illinois FIRST helps build strong communities by keeping jobs growing in Illinois," Ryan added.

The $174,400 includes $80,000 in regular road construction funds and $94,400 form the Economic Development Program that specifically targets transportation improvements to help communities retain or attract businesses and associated jobs.
