Statement from Governor Rod R. Blagojevich
CHICAGO - "I want to congratulate the U.S. House of Representatives for voting today to delay implementation of harmful Medicaid regulations proposed by the Bush administration. We've worked hard in Illinois to help more families have access to affordable health coverage. The Bush Administration's regulations would move our country in the opposite direction, and would cost Illinois over $2.5 billion in federal Medicaid funding over the next five years. During a time when our country faces an economic slowdown that's impacting family and state finances, we need Washington to maintain its commitment to Medicaid. I urge the U.S. Senate to follow the lead of their colleagues in the House and cast a vote to protect healthcare for our families."
