$363,900 in Illinois FIRST Projects for Lake County

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $363,900 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Lake County, including $85,000 to the Lindenhurst Park District to purchase a new bus with a handicap lift.

Transportation will be offered to and from associated programs and activities and will serve Lake County and the Lake Villa Township.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Sen. Adeline L. Geo-Karis, R-Zion.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $75,000 to the Village of Buffalo Grove to construct a missing segment of the bike path system. This project was initiated by State Rep. Sidney H. Mathias, R-Buffalo Grove.

  • $65,000 to OMNI Youth Services to purchase a new phone system.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. William E. Peterson, R-Long Grove.

  • $50,000 to the Lake County Crisis Center to provide child care services to its clients.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Susan Garrett, D-Lake Forest.

  • $25,000 to the Zion-Benton High School to purchase computer software and hardware and to install computer network wiring. The district is contributing $30,000.
    This project was initiated by State Rep.Timothy H. Osmond, R-Antioch.

  • $23,900 to I Plus to hire technical support staff and to purchase computer equipment. The corporation is contributing $25,000.
    This project was initiated by Garrett.

  • $15,000 to the Grass Lake School District 36 to purchase computer equipment and to purchase and install computer network wiring. The district is contributing $10,000.
    This project was initiated by Osmond.

  • $15,000 to the Committee Representing Our Young Adults (CROYA) to support its programming aimed at helping youths resist the temptations of drugs, alcohol, sexual behavior, violence, gangs and suicide.
    This project was initiated by Garrett.

  • $10,000 to the Lake County YWCA to purchase materials and supplies for its Girls' Health project. The Chicago Foundation for Women and the United Way are contributing $36,913.
    This project was initiated Osmond.
