Governor Quinn Backs Agriculture Energy Effort

Press Release - Tuesday, September 01, 2009

SPRINGFIELD – September 1, 2009. Governor Pat Quinn today signed a letter endorsing 25x25 Vision, an effort that encourages greater use of renewable energy in Illinois. The goal of 25x25 Vision is to produce 25 percent of Illinois’ energy from renewable resources such as biofuels, wind, solar, and hydro by the year 2025.

“This is a great opportunity to help protect our environment by utilizing our abundant renewable resources,” said Governor Quinn. “Increasing our use of renewable energy creates jobs, strengthens the economy, and reduces our dependence on foreign oil.”

The letter signing ceremony was held in the ADM tent on the Farm Progress Show grounds in Decatur. Governor Quinn will sign the letter during a live interview with WGN’s Orion Samuelson who has served as WGN’s Agribusiness Director since 1960.

The 25x25 Illinois Renewable Energy Alliance will also be featured at the Farm Progress Show in the Energy Grass Education Area located on 12th Street, east of Central Avenue.
