Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs Hosts Helping Our Hometown Heroes Event in Mattoon

MATTOON - The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) hosted a Helping Our Hometown Heroes event today at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4325 in Mattoon for local Veterans, their families, and friends. Various federal, state and local organizations came together for the event that was dedicated to assisting Illinois' military heroes and their families in getting all the benefits they deserve and have earned. 

"The Helping Our Hometown Heroes events are a great opportunity for our Veterans and their families to receive one-on-one assistance from professionals who know the resources available to help take care of our service members," Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs Director Dan Grant said.

The Helping Our Hometown Heroes event in Mattoon ran from 1-6 p.m. at VFW Post 4325, 1220 S. 19th St.,  and included informational booths, presentations, and one-on-one assistance from experts in a variety of areas including healthcare, employment, housing, education, and more. 

Nearly 30 federal, state and local agencies and organizations from Coles County and throughout the region participated in today's event including: Illinois Department of Employment Security, Illinois State Treasurer's Office, Coles County Council on Aging, Lake Land College, VA Illiana Health Care System, among others, and several veterans organizations.

IDVA has hosted Helping Our Hometown Heroes events at locations statewide, and will continue to do so over the next few months.  All local Veterans, family members, friends and neighbors are welcome and encouraged to attend.
