$1.2 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for Lake County

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $1,267,500 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Lake County, including $300,000 to the Village of Winthrop Harbor to make storm sewer improvements and drainage corrections at its municipal park.

This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Sen. Adeline J. Geo-Karis, R-Zion.

Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:

  • $150,000 to the Village of Mundelein to construct the foundation and frame of its new police station. The village is contributing $5.79 million to this project.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Andrea Moore, R-Libertyville.

  • $150,000 to Lake County to make improvements to Midlothian Road.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. William E. Peterson, R-Long Grove.

  • $150,000 to Lake County to make improvements to Midlothian Road.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Mark H. Beaubien, R-Barrington Hills.

  • $100,000 to Barat College to implement the Whirlwind Project which provides professional development for teachers. The Dr. Scholl Foundation is contributing $25,000.
    This project was initiated by State Sen. Terry Link, D-Vernon Hills.

  • $80,000 to the Village of Lindenhurst for storm sewer installation and curbing restoration/replacement in the Seven Hills Subdivision. The village is contributing $1.42 million.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Timothy H. Osmond, R-Antioch.

  • $50,000 to the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago to construct the Petersen Family Sports Center.
    This project was initiated by Geo-Karis.

  • $50,000 to the Winthrop Harbor School District 1 to make computer system improvements.
    This project was initiated by Osmond.

  • $50,000 to the City of Lake Forest to study the feasibility of constructing a bridge for bicyclists and pedestrians crossing US Route 41 at or near Old Elm Road and Westleigh Road.
    This project was initiated by State Rep. Susan Garrett, D-Lake Forest.

  • $50,000 to Waukegan Township for electrical work, carpeting, roof repairs and to install automatic doors at both entrances of the Township office, bringing it into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
    This project was initiated by Garrett.

  • $50,000 to the Lake County Forest Preserves to reimburse itself for exhibit renovation costs at the Lake County Discovery Museum.
    This project was initiated by Moore.

  • $20,000 to William Raney Harper College to construct a new science center.
    This project was initiated by Link.

  • $14,500 to Shimer College to renovate the electrical infrastructure in Hutchins Hall.
    This project was initiated by Garrett.

  • $13,000 to Lake Forest L.E.A.D. to develop and deliver a program to heighten awareness about and increase avoidance from "date rape" and "club" drugs.
    This project was initiated by Garrett.

  • $10,000 to the YWCA of Lake County to purchase three computers and to install new telephone cables.
    This project was initiated by Geo-Karis.

  • $10,000 to the Bonnie Brook Fire Protection District to purchase a defibrillator. The district is contributing $17,200.
    This project was initiated by Osmond.

  • $10,000 to the Lake Forest Hospital to purchase 2,400 cholesterol screening kits for the CareCoach mobile health program.
    This project was initiated by Garrett.

  • $10,000 to the Lake Bluff School District 65 to purchase and install new playground equipment at the site of West School in Knollwood.
    This project was initiated by Garrett.
