State Veterans' Affairs Hosts "Helping Our Hometown Heroes" Event in Jefferson County for Local Veterans, Families, and Friends

MT. VERNON - The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) hosted a Helping Our Hometown Heroes event at American Legion #141, 816 Main St., Mt. Vernon in Jefferson County for Veterans, their families, and friends.  Federal, state and local agencies and organizations came together for the event that is dedicated to assisting military heroes and their families in getting the benefits they rightfully deserve.

"Helping our Veterans is a priority for IDVA and Helping Our Hometown Heroes events provide opportunities to make sure that Veterans and their families get the assistance they need," said IDVA Director Dan Grant. "Local Veterans and their families can receive one-on-one assistance from professionals who know about the resources that are available to take care of our service men and women.  It is also a great way to learn about state and federal benefits.  I urge all Veterans, their families, friends, and members of the community to come out to this event."

The Helping Our Hometown Heroes event was held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and included informational booths, presentations, and one-on-one assistance from experts in a variety of areas including healthcare, employment, housing, education, and more

More than a dozen federal, state and local agencies and organizations from Jefferson County and throughout the region participated in today's event including: Illinois Department of Employment Security, U.S. Social Security Administration, Jefferson County Health Department, Senior Services, and several veterans organizations, among others.
