Governor Announces $300,000 Grant to the City of Red Bud

Press Release - Friday, October 20, 2000

SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan today announced the City of Red Bud has been awarded a grant of $374,060 to assist Secon Rubber and Plastics, Inc. construct a new 25,000 square foot manufacturing facility. The new facility will result in the retention of 14 jobs and the creation of 24 new jobs.

"Red Bud is a community on the move that turned to the state for help along the way," Ryan said. "By providing communities like Red Bud with targeted financial assistance, we can help boost local economies and raise the quality of life across Illinois."

The Department of Commerce and Community Affairs (DCCA) awarded the grant through its Community Development Assistance Program (CDAP). The CDAP grant will allow the City of Red Bud to extend a loan to Secon Rubber and Plastics, Incorporated. The funds will then be used towards the acquisition of equipment.

"Helping communities help themselves is what CDAP is all about," said DCCA Director Pam McDonough. "In this instance, CDAP has allowed the City of Red Bud to accommodate the needs of Secon Rubber and Plastics, while leaving room for future growth."

Secon Rubber and Plastics receives fully cured raw materials and then converts and fabricates the materials for industry. The company, due to strong sales growth, has exceeded the capacity of its current facility. At present, box trailers have been utilized to take care of the overflow.

"This program is good for helping small companies, like Secon Rubber and Plastics, expand their businesses," said D&R Management Partner, Doug Siebenberger. "We appreciate DCCAs' assistance, and look forward to maintaining our partnerships with the City of Red Bud and the State of Illinois."

"We are extremely pleased that DCCA awarded this grant to the City. It is a prime example of how the State, City, and business can work well together for the benefit of everyone," stated John Horrell, Mayor of Red Bud.
