Governor Pat Quinn Offers Condolences In West Virginia Mining Accident

Press Release - Tuesday, April 06, 2010

CHICAGO – April 6, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn has offered his condolences to West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin, the people of West Virginia and all the families that lost loved ones at the Upper Big Branch Mine accident in Raleigh County.

Attached is a letter from Governor Quinn to Governor Manchin:

Dear Governor Manchin,

I am writing to offer my sincere condolences to you and the people of West Virginia in the wake of the tragedy at the Upper Big Branch Mine near Charleston on Monday.

I know how important coal mining is to the State of West Virginia and am aware of the personal risks that coal miners take every day to provide an important energy source for our nation. Illinois is also a coal-producing state and I share with you a tremendous respect for the hard work coal miners perform and their willingness to labor in a dangerous environment.

Please know that the thoughts and prayers of the people of Illinois are with all of West Virginia.

Sincerely,

Pat Quinn
Governor, State of Illinois
