IDOT officials stress safety as motorists hit the roadways for the Fourth of July weekend

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Secretary Gary Hannig today urged Illinois drivers to buckle up and stay sober as they get ready to hit the roadways for the Fourth of July weekend.  Secretary Hannig also announced that IDOT will make sure roads are open wherever possible, but some projects will continue, resulting in lane closures over the holiday weekend. 

"While we want everyone to enjoy their holiday weekend, we must put safety first and remind motorists to not drink and drive and to be conscious of work zones," said IDOT Secretary Gary Hannig.  "We will limit lane closures where possible to provide some relief to those travelling over the holiday weekend, but some areas will still have workers present, so please obey the posted speed limits and drive cautiously.

IDOT will suspend construction-related lane closures starting at 3 p.m. Friday, July 2 until 12:01 a.m., Tuesday, July 6.  Motorists are advised to comply with the posted speed limit of 45 miles per hour while driving through a work zone at all times.
 
Wherever a road is closed, a detour will be posted.  In some areas, there will be lane restrictions.

Due to the nature of some projects, there will be a number of work zones that will continue to have lane closures. Motorists are advised to slow down and be alert in those work zones, and are reminded that work zone speed limits are still in effect. In the Chicagoland area, all lanes of traffic are open on the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) from Racine to the I-88 Interchange going both eastbound and westbound. 
Traffic is also opened up on the Eastbound lanes from Austin to Sacramento.

COOK COUNTY

US 12/45, bridge construction over the SOO Line RR and Franklin Ave. in Franklin Park.  Two of 3 lanes open in each direction.

I-90 bridge construction at Sayre Avenue in Chicago.  One lane open in each direction on Sayre Ave. over I-90.

Palatine Road culvert replacement over the McDonald Creek in Prospect Heights.  Two lanes open in each direction.

IL 21 reconstruction and new bridge construction from Willow Road to Sanders in Glenview.  One lane open in each direction.

IL 53/I 290 resurfacing and bridge repair from IL 72 to US 12 in Schaumburg and Arlington Heights.  Two of 3 lanes open in each direction.

IL 19 bridge repair over the EJ & E Railroad in Bartlett and Elgin.  Road is closed and has a posted detour.

Sheridan Rd. reconstruction from 10th St to Isabella St. in Wilmette.  SB lanes are closed.  Traffic was moved to the NB lanes.  One lane open in each direction

North Oak Ave. resurfacing, storm sewer, restoration from West Bartlett Ave. to US 20/West Bartlett Rd. from IL 59 to Western Ave. in Bartlett.  Road closed has a posted detour.

Wright Blvd. roadway and traffic signal reconstruction between Irving Park Rd and Wise Rd where Wright Blvd crosses beneath the Elgin O'Hare Exp. in Schaumburg.  Road is closed has a posted detour.

Skokie Blvd. roadway reconstruction from Foster St. to Golf Road in Skokie in Skokie.  One lane in each direction

Milwaukee Ave. widening & resurfacing from Albion Ave. to Neva Ave. in Niles in Niles.  One lane in each direction

I-57 @ 111TH bridge reconstruction in Calumet Park & Chicago.  Shoulder closures on I-57.  111th St. closed at I-57 and traffic detoured to 112th Pl.

159th St. (US 6) reconstruction from I 294 to east of IL 1 (Halsted St.) in Harvey.  159th St. closed from Park Ave. to Center St.  Detour posted using IL 1 (Halsted St.) Sibley Blvd. and Dixie Highway.  One lane closed on 159th St. from I-294 to Park Ave. & and from Center St. to east of Halsted.  One lane closed in each direction of Dixie Hwy., Wood St., Park Ave., & IL 1 (Halsted St.) at 159th St.

Kedzie Ave. bridge work over Cal Sag (North of 135th St.) in Alsip.  One lane closed in each direction.  Motorists should expect delays.

Dixie Hwy. bridge reconstruction over Butterfield Creek (south of Flossmoor Road.) in Flossmoor.  Dixie Hwy. closed south of Flossmoor Rd., Detour posted at 183rd St., IL 1 (Halsted St.) and Joe Orr Road.

Southwest Highway bridge and intersection reconstruction over the B&O RR (south-west of Ridgeland Ave.) in Chicago Ridge & Oak Lawn.  One lane closed in each direction of Southwest Highway.

US 30 at IL 394 bridge reconstruction in Ford Heights.  One lane closed in each direction of US 30.  Narrow ramps.  Expect delays.

Burnham Ave. bridge repair over State St. (north of Sibley Blvd.) in Calumet City.  One lane closed in each direction of Burnham Ave.

26th St. and I-55 Frontage Rd. B bridge work over the Franklin Connector in Chicago.  26th St., one lane open in each direction.

I-290 bridge work and resurfacing from I-88 to I 90/94 in Various towns.  See website for updates.

US 34 (Ogden Ave.) bridge deck replacement over IL 53 in Lisle.  One lane open in each direction.

DUPAGE COUNTY

Mill Rd. resurfacing and water mail from Army Trail to Lake St. to Lake St. and Army Trail from Mill to JFK Dr. in Addison.  One lane open southbound on Mill Road and one lane open in each direction on Army Trail.

W Illinois Prairie Path Bridge is closed with a detour posted on Wesley St. and Manchester Road over the Union Pacific RR in Wheaton.  Road closed.  Detour is posted.

Schick Rd. resurfacing, and pavement striping from Lorraine Circle to Gary Ave. in Bloomingdale.  One lane open in each direction.

Reconstruction & bridge work at the intersection of 75th St. & Washington St. in Naperville.  One lane in each direction.

Garfield St. reconstruction (55th to Chicago Ave.) in Hinsdale.  Southbound lanes open only - detour signs are posted.

Jefferson Ave. Bridge over the DuPage River in Naperville.  Road closed due to bridge work.  Detour signs are posted.

KANE COUNTY

McLean Blvd/IL 31 pavement widening and traffic signal work at New Stearns Rd. in South Elgin.  Road closed and as a posted detour.

Keslinger twin precast concrete box culvert over Welch Creek in Elburn.  Road closed and has a posted detour.

Indian Trail Road reconstruction from Church to Farnsworth in Aurora.  One lane open  in each direction.

South Municipal Dr. and Galena Blvd. reconstruction in Sugar Grove.  One lane in each direction.

IL 56 bridge deck replacement over Blackberry Creek in Sugar Grove.  One lane open in each direction.

IL 47 roadway reconstruction with new traffic signals from Reed Road at Kruetzer in Huntley.  One lane in each direction with left turn lanes at signalized intersections.

LAKE COUNTY

IL 22 at US 45/IL 21, intersection reconstruction with traffic signal work in Lincolnshire.  One lane in each direction with left turn lanes at the intersection.

US 45 widening and reconstruction from Petersen Road to IL 120 in Grayslake.  One lane in each direction with left turn lanes at signalized intersections.

IL 83 widening including drainage with new signals from Petite Lake Road to Wisconsin State Line in Antioch/Lake Villa.  One lane closed in each direction.

Cemetery Rd. reconstruction from Washington St. to the Tri-State Pkwy. In Gurnee.  One lane open in each direction.

Martin Luther King Drive resurfacing from IL 31 to IL 137 in North Chicago.  One lane in each direction

MCHENRY COUNTY

Bridge reconstruction and resurfacing over a branch of Nippersink Creek in McHenry County and Alden Rd. reconstruction from IL 173 to Il 173. in McHenry County.  One lane open with a bridge signal.

Virginia Road reconstruction from IL 31 to James R. Rakow Road east of Cary.  Only southbound traffic allowed on Virginia Road. There is a posted detour.

WILL COUNTY

Lily Cache Lane reconstruction from Schmidt to Fernwood in One lane open in each direction.

Cedar Road Bridge over Jackson Creek in Will County is closed.  Detour is posted.

IL 59 reconstruction from I-55 to IL 126 in Joliet.  2 lane hwy with day time lane closures from I-55 to IL 126 in Shorewood and Plainfield. Ramp from IL 59 to southbound I-55 is closed.  Detour posted.  Motorists should expect delays.

I-57 Manhattan-Monee Rd. entrance and exit ramps reconstruction in Monee.  No lane closures expected on I-57 north and southbound, however, the right and left shoulders will be closed and lanes are reduced on Manhattan-Monee Rd & NB I-57 @ Manhattan-Monee Rd. & on SB exit to Manhattan-Monee Rd.  

Intersection and bridge reconstruction on IL 394 and IL 1 at Goodenow Rd. in Crete.  One lane closed in each direction of IL 394.

IL 1 bridge repair over Trim Creek 1 mile south of Beecher.  Traffic will be reduced to one lane with temporary signals.  Motorists should expect delays.

HENRY COUNTY
I-74 north of Woodhull is restricted to one lane in each direction while the bridges over Opheim Road and TR-379 are replaced one half at a time.

IL 82 approximately three miles south of IL 92. Replacement of the culvert at Elks Branch Creek north of Geneseo restricts traffic to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals.

IL 82 approximately one mile north of Geneseo. Replacement of the bridge over the Hennepin Canal restricts traffic to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals.

JODAVIESS COUNTY
US 20 will be restricted to one lane in each direction east of East Dubuque while the eastbound lanes are replaced west of Sand Hill Road.

IL 78 south of Warren. Replacement of two culverts near Meyer Road and Chelsea Road restricts traffic to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals.

LEE COUNTY
I-39 is restricted to one lane in each direction near US 30 as the shoulders have been removed and are being replaced as part of a 19 mile reconstruction project.
Westbound IL 2 near the Sauk Valley College entrance between Dixon and Sterling. Traffic is restricted to one lane as two bridges are being replaced one half at a time.

ROCK ISLAND COUNTY
I-80 over the Mississippi River is restricted to one lane in each direction due to the emergency repairs needed to the outside lanes of the bridge. Repairs will be completed by October.
US 67 bridge over the north channel of the Rock River between Milan and Rock Island. Traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction as the bridge expansion joints are replaced.

WHITESIDE COUNTY
US 30 near the west edge of Morrison. Replacement of the bridge over Rock Creek restricts traffic to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals.

WINNEBAGO COUNTY
IL 2 at Airport Road at the south edge of Rockford. Replacement of the bridge over Fuller Creek restricts traffic to one lane in each direction as the structure is replaced one half at a time.

IL 70 at the south edge of Durand. Replacement of the bridge over Otter Creek restricts traffic to one lane controlled by temporary traffic signals.

IL 75 from IL 70 south of Durand to Dakota is closed to through traffic. Grade changes at the IL 70/75 intersection and replacement of 12 structures in the 9 mile section have the road closed and traffic detoured on parallel County highways.

BUREAU COUNTY
Interstate 80, Bridge replacements from MP 61 to MP 73, One lane open each direction.

FORD COUNTY
Illinois 115 near Kempton, ROAD CLOSED for replacement of two structures, Detour is posted.

KANKAKEE COUNTY
Patching, widening and resurfacing on Armour Road between Illinois 50 and US 45/52, One lane open in each direction.

LaSALLE COUNTY
Illinois 71, Four culvert replacements between Norway and Newark, One lane open at each structure, controlled by signals.

US 6 between Marseilles and Seneca, ROAD CLOSED for replacement of culvert, Detour is posted.

LIVINGSTON COUNTY
Illinois 17, Two bridge replacements between Reddick and Dwight, One lane open at each structure, controlled by signals.

KNOX COUNTY
US 34 over I-74.  Replacement of both bridges reduces traffic to one lane in each direction.

PEORIA COUNTY
IL Rte 8 (Pottstown) over Big Hollow creek.  Bridge replacement reduces traffic to one lane in each direction.

Airport Rd at IL 116 in Peoria.  Bridge and pavement replacement reduces traffic to one lane in each direction.

HENDERSON COUNTY
IL Rte 94 over Middle Creek (N. of Stronghurst).  Bridge closed, all traffic detoured on IL 116 through Media.

IL Rte 96 over Thompson Creek (Dallas City).  Bridge closed, local traffic detoured through town, and truck traffic detoured to IL 94.

TAZEWELL COUNTY
IL Route 8 in East Peoria (Sunnyland) will be under stage construction with one lane in each direction.

US 150 (Meadows Avenue) in East Peoria will be under stage construction with one lane in each direction for bridge reconstruction.

WOODFORD COUNTY
IL 26 at the south edge of Spring Bay.  Bridge replacement reduces traffic to one lane controlled by signals.

IL 117 between Eureka and Goodfield.  Bridge rehabilitation reduces traffic to one lane controlled by signals.

MCDONOUGH/FULTON
IL 9 at the McDonough/Fulton County line.  Bridge replacement reduces traffic to one lane controlled by signals.

St. Clair Avenue will be reduced to one lane from 18th Street to 22nd Street in E. ST. Louis for constructing a roundabout, pavement widening and resurfacing.
