Press Release - Friday, July 16, 2010

CALUMET CITY - The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) hosted Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits fair for veterans today at the Ehinger Brothers VFW Post 8141 in Calumet City to assist veterans with accessing benefits information from federal, state and local agencies and organizations.

"Helping Our Hometown Heroes give veterans and their families the assistance they need in one location," said IDVA Director Dan Grant. "It is a great resource for veterans to learn about and tap into all the benefits they have earned and are entitled to receive. I urge all veterans, their families, friends, and members of the community to support these events."

Friday's event was free and open to the public, and was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ehinger Brothers VFW Post 8141, 664 Hirsch Avenue in Calumet City.  At least a dozen federal, state and local agencies and organizations participated, including the U.S. Social Security Administration, Illinois Department of Aging, Illinois Department of Employment Security, and A Touch of Grace Hospice Care, among others.

The event was the latest in a series of benefits fairs being held throughout Cook County through August 6th co-sponsored by IDVA and the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County (CEDA). For more information, please visit www.veterans.illinois.gov.
