Press Release - Friday, July 16, 2010

LAWRENCEVILLE - The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) hosted Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits fair for veterans today at the Lawrenceville VFW in Lawrenceville to assist veterans with accessing benefits information from federal, state and local agencies and organizations.

"Helping Our Hometown Heroes give veterans and their families the assistance they need in one location," said IDVA Director Dan Grant. "It is a great resource for veterans to learn about and tap into all the benefits they have earned and are entitled to receive. I urge all veterans, their families, friends, and members of the community to support these events."

Friday's event was free and open to the public, and was held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lawrenceville VFW, 511 12th St., Lawrenceville. At least a dozen federal, state and local agencies and organizations participated, including the U.S. Social Security Administration, Illinois Department of Aging, Illinois Department of Employment Security, and the Lawrence County Health Department, among others.
