MARION – The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs (IDVA) hosted Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits fair for veterans today at the Marion VFW to assist veterans with accessing benefits information from federal, state and local agencies and organizations in one location.
“Helping Our Hometown Heroes is a great resource for veterans to learn about and tap into all the benefits they have earned and are entitled to receive,” said IDVA Director Dan Grant. “We appreciate all of the agencies that support these events and are working hard to serve veterans and their families in this community.”
More than a dozen federal, state and local agencies and organizations throughout Southern Illinois attended the event, which was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and was free and open to the public.
Participating organizations included the Illinois Department of Employment Security, The Lighthouse Shelter, Shawnee Development Council, Operation Rally Point, John A. Logan College, and Southeastern College, among many others.
The event was the latest in a series of Helping Our Hometown Heroes benefits fairs being held statewide through October 28th. For more information, please visit www.veterans.illinois.gov.
