$2.2 Million in Illinois FIRST Projects for Northwest Suburbs
SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $2.268 million in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Northwest Suburbs, including $550,000 to Wilmette School District 39 to renovate the Wilmette Junior High School Auditorium.
The auditorium is 30 years old, seats 692 people, serves six elementary schools and a community of 26,690 residents. The renovation will allow for the auditorium to become home to park district and community events. The school district is contributing $100,000.
This Illinois FIRST project was initiated by State Rep. Jeffrey M. Schoenberg, D-Wilmette.
Other Illinois FIRST grants announced by Ryan:
- $400,000 to the City of Park Ridge to expand the capacity of a retention pond on Lutheran General Hospital property.
This project was initiated by State Rep. Rosemary Mulligan, R-Des Plaines. - $232,000 to Northbrook to purchase disaster preparedness equipment.
This project was initiated by State Sen. Kathleen K. Parker, R-Northfield. - $250,000 to North Shore Senior Center, Northfield to renovate its facility.
This project was initiated by Parker and Schoenberg. - $150,000 to Roosevelt University Institute for Tourism Studies to purchase the necessary resources to launch an Institute for Travel and Tourism.
This project was initiated by State Rep. Terry R. Parke, R-Schaumburg. - $130,000 to the North Maine Fire Protection District to purchase a new ambulance.
This project was initiated by State Sen. Dave Sullivan, R-Mount Prospect. - $80,000 to the Northfield Park District to renovate the Clarkson Park Playground. The park district is contributing $16,500.
This project was initiated by Parker. - $75,000 to the Des Plaines Park District to install playground equipment at Lake Park. The park district is contributing $25,000.
This project was initiated by Sullivan. - $75,000 to the City of Des Plaines to install automatic traffic signal devices for emergency response vehicles.
This project was initiated by Mulligan. - $60,000 to the Jewish United Fund of Metro Chicago to expand in-home care for the elderly in the northern suburbs.
This project was initiated by State Rep. Elizabeth Coulson, R-Glenview. - $65,000 to the Park Ridge Recreation and Park District to help fund construction of a skateboard park. The city is contributing $48,000.
This project was initiated by Sullivan and Mulligan. - $26,000 to the Buffalo Grove Park District to purchase playground equipment for the Mill Creek Park. The village is contributing $101,665.
This project was initiated by Sullivan. - $15,000 to Search Developmental Center, Northbrook to purchase two mobility lifts.
This project was initiated by Parker. - $10,000 to SHORE Community Services, Inc. to establish and improve landscape and recreational areas at its training center and Early Intervention/Adult Center.
This project was initiated by Schoenberg.
