Ryan Names Assistant Director for CMS
CHICAGO -- Governor George H.
Ryan today announced the appointment of Lula M. Ford as Assistant Director
of the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS).
"As a proven leader, Lula brings a wealth of experience to
state government," Ryan said. "I am pleased that she has agreed
to return to public service in this important capacity."
Ford, 56, of Chicago, will have oversight over CMS efforts
to improve diversity in the state government workforce -- part of Governor
Ryans Executive Order #15 directing state agencies to develop
a recruitment plan to reach all populations while filling vacancies.
Ford will also oversee the Business Enterprise Program, which promotes
development of businesses owned by minorities, females and persons with
disabilities.
Formerly retired, Ford most recently served as the Chicago Public
Schools Educational Liaison to the Chicago Housing Authority. She has
been a teacher, principal, school leadership development officer, assistant
superintendent, and instruction officer for Chicago Public Schools and
has earned numerous recognitions for her service to the public.
Ford replaces Gertrude W. Jordan, who was named director of the
Illinois Department of Employment Security.
