SPRINGFIELD -- Governor George H. Ryan announced today that he is releasing $297,000 in Illinois FIRST funding for projects in Northwestern Cook County, including $120,000 to the Hoffman Estates Park District for repairs and renovations at High Point Park.

The district will halt shoreline erosion at the park's pond with new "riprap" and retaining walls, and will repair and resurface new walking and bike paths, a basketball court and four tennis courts.

Other Illinois FIRST projects announced by Ryan:

  • $107,000 to the Alfred Campanelli YMCA in Schaumburg to purchase equipment and furniture for the YMCA's new day care center. Kitchen equipment and close-circuit TV security system will be bought.

  • $50,000 to the Village of Mount Prospect to install video cameras in all of the village's police cars.

  • $20,000 to the Elk Grove Rural Fire Department to purchase 25 sets of fireproof "turn-out" coats and pants for firefighters.

These Illinois FIRST projects were initiated by State Rep. Terry Parke, R-Hoffman Estates.
